→Troubleshooting 2- Mortise does not mechanically lock
There are 2 possible scenarios as to why the mortise does not mechanically lock (with mechanical key):
- The key cylinder gear might be misaligned
- This rarely occurs because the key cylinder and its gear are screwed down by a plate
- However, if it does occur, unscrewing the plate and realigning the gear will fix the issue
- The key tail piece was not installed into the doorlock or the key tail piece was cut too short
- Check if key tail piece was put into the doorlock. Once key tail piece is inserted into the doorlock, the mortise should mechanically lock and unlock using the mechanical keys
- If key tail piece was cut too short, it prevents the front body (key cylinder) from engaging the mortise
- Replacing the key tail piece will fix the issue
